I am also willing to bet that many will be surprised, when they hear that other women were the primary source of hostility to her working. To an extent, I do not think it should be so surprising; people can be incredibly petty when someone disregards the norms. Did your grandmother ever say if what your grandfather thought of this? Also, how long did she work, and was she always a real-estate agent? Neither of my grandmothers worked, both were essentially poor housewives. My grandfathers on the other hand, one worked for a phone company and the other was a farmer/carpenter/general handyman. (I pledge 115)
