    The idea of a Tupperware party has always been strange to me but I have attended a few that my aunt has held. Hers are a bit different though, she sells Avon and she invites multiple friends that sell other products like Scentsy and Tupperware and then she invites a bunch of people over to buy the products. I also find it interesting when you talk about how the type of clothing that could be bought was very specific because even now if you go into mainstream stores they mostly sell what is considered to be popular or the norm. But of course now that there is the internet if you don’t like those options given to you then you can order things online. I will say that I think that the consumer culture that was created in America in the 1950s has definitely not slowed down any but I imagine at some point it is bound to. But for now we will just have to continue to watch commercials on T.V. that say if you don’t feed your kids Oreos or Ovaltine then you might not be a good parent.

      Hey,
      From the readings this week, i became very interested with Brownie Wise. It was interesting that the reading talked about this unique opportunity for women. She used a group in the US that is not usually apart of the workforce and, in a culturally sensitive way, used them for a profit. It was a time when women were expected to adhere to the rules of society and be good mothers. Wise’s methods did not go against these ideas but affirmed them. It felt like she was giving women opportunity, something that second wave feminists would be fight for in the next few decades, but did it in a way that made everyone comfortable. I wonder what feminists, like Betty Friedan, would have thought about THP? Another idea that i thought of was that these clothing that where produced in the 50s embodied the excess of the time. It sounded like there was an explosion of materials on the clothes that you would not have seen before. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and i look forward to hearing more of your ideas.
