Very informative and well written essay Christine. I had no idea that Life Magazine started publishing in 1883. Those iconic and powerful images on the cover pages must have had a tremendous influence on those who viewed them. I agree with your position that the magazine was initially used as a war propaganda device to help garner support for the Vietnam War. I also agree with your important point that as public opinion toward the war shifted, the titles and pictures depicted on the magazine’s cover did as well. The horrors and hard truths of war began to emerge, overpowering the fabricated sense of glory associated with conflict. This forced American citizens to reevaluate their position and rethink why they were actually in Vietnam. Do you think towards the end of the war the magazine was used more to gather sympathy for the wounded soldiers rather than as propaganda to keep the war moving forward? “I pledge” (Word Count 155)
